Join Ashmita Trek & Tours for one of the latest and greatest treks in the eastern Himalaya – the Darjeeling Sandakphu Timburey Trek! It is the shortened version (4 days trekking) of the full Darjeeling Singalila Ridge Trek. How many other treks can you be face to face with the world’s highest mountains in just a few days?
Walk along the Singalila Ridge, which joins Nepal and India, while staring in awe at not one, not two, but four of the highest peaks in the world! From Sandakphu (3636 meters/11,929 feet), the highest point in West Bengal, feast your eyes on Mount Everest (8848 meters), Kanchenjunga (8586 meters), Lhotse (8516meters), and Makalu (8481meters). Spend a night at Sandakphu and watch the sun rise and fall, painting the mountains a fiery red-orange colour.
Begin the adventure :The trek starts from Maneybhanjyang, after a splendid hilly cruise from Darjeeling.Trek through grassy meadows and blissful forests, passing mountain viewpoint after mountain viewpoint. Ascend through radiating rhododendron forests to charming villages. Spend time with the locals and learn about their distinct lifestyle. Also, along the trail, you might run into one of the awesome animals of Singalila National Park, including the red panda, leopard, barking deer, or Himalayan black bear.
When you arrive to Sandakphu, your breath is taken away by the 360-degree mountain panorama. The moments at Sandakphu will be cherished for the rest of your days. Snap some photos to remind you of this beautiful place before descending to Timburey and finishing the trek.
It is possible to do the Darjeeling Sandakphu Timburey Trek from 15th Sep to 15th Jun. In the springtime, the colorful flowers are blooming. During the fall, the skies are usually clearer. Ashmita Trek and Tours arranges the trek with full management, including transportation, meals, etc. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions!
Meet at Ashmita Trek & Tours office at 8AM and let the journey begin! A two-hour jeep ride takes us to the small village of Maneybhanjyang, just outside Singalila National Park. We check in at the office and take care of visa/passport formalities. Begin trekking through the forested trail, through colorful oak and rhododendron trees. The uphill hike leads us to Tumling after 5-6 hours. Here, we have stunning views the Kanchenjunga range in the distance, and the city of Darjeeling beneath us. Overnight at the Shikhar Lodge, run by a friendly Gurung family.
Rise out of bed before the sun rises for a magical view of the Singalila and Chola ranges of Kanchenjunga from Tumling Top. Seeing the sunlight illuminate these peaks is an unforgettable sight. Hike down to Tumling for breakfast and then head to Sandakphu after passing Gairibas and Kalapokhri. The route leads through bamboo and mixed forests, and fields of crops, admiring the little villages along the way. The trail is continuously uphill to Kalapokhri, where we eat lunch. After a rest, hike on aneven trail to Bikhebhanjyang (or ‘Valley of Poison’). From here, it’s a steep climb over 4 kilometers to Sandakphu. On this ridge, you will see one of the greatest mountain views in the region. See Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and other majestic peaks. Overnight at Sunrise Lodge, owned by a friendly Sherpa family.
Like the previous day, we recommend waking up for the surreal sunrise over the Himalayas. We climb up a little bit to a perfect viewpoint. Today’s view is even more fabulous than the previous, simply because the panorama is so expansive. Return to Sandakphu for breakfast and continue down towards Timburey. On the way, we have some of the best views of the trek. Through dense forests, we catch many glimpses of the highest mountain range on Earth. The trail is covered with bamboo, rhododendron, and other lush trees. Upon arrival in Timburey, we go to the private homestay where we sleep for the night. During dinner, learn about the culture and lifestyle of locals. Overnight in Timburey.
The final day of the trek does not disappoint. We have breakfast in Timburey and start the hike towards Rimbeek. It is a relatively flat trail for about 10 kilometers. On the way, pass through Srikhola village and stop for a tea or snack if you’d like. When we reach Rimbeek, we transport you back to Darjeeling.

I have done trekking two years in a row with them. First was a day trek to Tonglu-Tumling. This year in March I did 5 day trek to Sandakphu. I prefer solo trekking at my own pace and journey is more important than the summit. Mr.Tamang took exceptional care of me throughout from wake up to ensuring that my doors are closed before pack up for night. He would ensure that I ate well hydrate well and sleep well. He would take care to the extent that everything I'm my bag is packed and I leave nothing behind. Such personal care and attention is too difficult to find. What a gem of a person.Thank you so much for everything
What a trip! We dropped in to see Subash (business owner) who put our tour together the afternoon before. Dawa Lama was our guide and he was nothing short of excellent! We ask a LOT of questions and he was patient, knowledgable and nothing went unanswered. One of us has serious intolerance to lots of food - Dawa made sure everything was cooked separately for us to cater for this everywhere we went which meant we stayed well throughout. He picked us up when we fell over and even rescued our bag when it shot off the trail down the mountain! Dawa picked the best bits of the normal 5 day hike and made sure we did the highlights ... a lot of the early part of the trail is on 4x4 tracks so Day One we hired one of the land rovers who drove us up to Tumling ... we hiked from Tumling to Garibas then drove up to around 3km short of Sandakphu to hike up. We had the clearest view the next day of the mountains. Dawa organised a birthday cake and candles and then we set off for two days hiking the ‘black’ forest all the way down to Rimbick which is just beautiful! The accommodation organised through Subash was excellent considering the limited resources on the ridge. The two home stays were really really welcoming and there is loads of opportunity to chat to other hikers in the evening. Dawa always introduced us to the owners and is so friendly to everyone we came across on the trails meaning we chatted to farmers and porters learning even more about local life. We are not about big ticket travelling or head down hiking - we go to places to walk, look up, enjoy and learn - Dawa and Subash understood what we wanted and delivered 110%!!! Few tips ... you have to carry your own gear, pack light and pack warm ... it is very cold at night and at sunrise. Take one set of walking clothes and a long sleeve t-shirt to sleep in. Ashmita provide sleeping bags but we took our own inners. We took our own walking poles and these were a god send but it depends on how strong your knees are! Book with Ashmita and ask for Dawa as your guide ... you won’t be let down!!! Thanks guys for such a memorable trip ... we will be back x

We had a wonderful 6 days long Singalila track with Sangay. Enjoyed everything: stunning views, welcoming hosts along the way, amazing food and most importantly the work of the guide and porters. 10/10, thank you guys

I saw the agency on my guide (Le Routard). Subash, the manager of the agency answered at all the questions i had. He provided me equipments i needed and it was included in the global price. I trekked with Binod a very good guide while 5 days on the Singalila Trek. He was very professional, i felt safety and the lodges he choose were excellents !
We became friends with Subash after the trek and it will be a pleasure to meet him again !

We did the Singhalila trekking for 5,5 days. The Trekking brought us along different kinds of landscapes, which were all quite beautiful. Along the way we stayed at guesthouses in pretty villages, met a lot of lovely people and always enjoyed good food. We can really recommend Ashmita and especially our guide Pembé, who always took good care of us.
Don't look any further, this agency is great !

Really well organized 3 day trek. Great food and really attentive service from both a company and our guide.

We did a 4 day trek and had a brilliant time. Our guide, Dawa Lama, was so kind and helpful and was really patient when one of our group got bad altitude sickness. It is well worth doing 4 days rather than 3 as the final night was in a lovely homestay and the walk was totally different from the other days as it was through the Black Forest.
Be warned that the first two nights it is very very cold but lots of thick blankets are provided and the views of the Himalayas make it worthwhile.
Subash, who runs the company is great. He lent us warm clothes for free and even took us for a meal the night we returned.
Ashmita, Subash and Dawa were all great, highly recommend!

The incredible people of Ashmita Trek and Tours arranged a seamless, stress-free experience for me and I couldn't be happier with choosing them.I contacted Subash (owner) via a website query roughly a month before my trip. He was extremely responsive and helpful as I made arrangements. Dipu, a good-natured and happy fellow, picked me up at the Bagdogra airport and drove me to Darjeeling. We stopped for Momos along the way, and Dipu kept the conversation lively and interesting. Upon arrival in Darjeeling, Dipu helped me get settled at the hotel (Dekeling, which is close by and was also fantastic). He also met up with me later that evening at the Ashmita office, which was very close to the Dekeling. That evening Subash gave me a nice overview of the trek and made some suggestions. For example, I asked if I really needed to bring my sleeping bag... he said I should, and I'm glad I did. While each tea house had a bed, its was nice to have the extra warmth of the sleeping bag.
My 5-day Darjeeling - Dandakphu - Timburey trek with Sangay started the next morning. This was the absolute highlight of my trip, and Sangay had a lot to do with it. The first three days of the trek involve a good deal of uphill (I clocked ~10k vertical feet of climbing on the trip). Sangay did a great job of sensing a good pace for both of us while also providing great information about the surroundings, giving me insights about the way of life in the area, and talking about a wide range of other topics. In short, it seemed like I was trekking with my buddy... my very knowledgeable and fit buddy, albeit.
At the end of the trek, Dipu met us in Rimbek and three three of us had a good time on the 4-hour drive back to Darjeeling. In the morning, Dipu took me back to the airport.
This was an incredible experience, and I highly recommend Ashmita to anyone considering trekking in the area.

All I can say is WOW! We customized a 4-day trek that took us from Maneybhanjyang to Tumling, to Sandakphu, to Timburey, and finally to Rimbeek. This was our first trek that was longer than a day hike, but we did it! Our guide was very patient with us, encouraged us to take our time and go slowly, but also to not give up! The owner was very responsive via email prior to our trek, which was very comforting. He answered our questions and helped to clarify everything. He was also able to set up some porters to carry our backpacks throughout the whole trek. Those men were LIFESAVERS and we could not have done it without them. Food and tea were completely taken care of, which was nice to not have to worry much. We had to pay for water, but it was well worth it and necessary to survive the long days of walking and climbing up elevation. 4 days was the perfect amount of time for all of us newbies and I look forward to using this company again in a different area of India/Nepal!
Now, honestly this was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, but it was WELL worth every minute. Living in Mumbai, we do not get good outdoor activities like this every day, so it was much appreciated! I would highly recommend that people train a bit before doing this - the second day was very difficult to get through, but we did it! I would also make sure that you are generally fit - my aunts were in their mid-40s and I am in my mid-20s. It is at a slight elevation, which made everything a bit more difficult. Mid-September was perfect because we were the first ones to enter the park for this hike, the rain was very very minimal and the weather was almost perfect (a bit chilly at night).
We did sandakhpu - phalut trek returned via Gorkhey - Timburey - srikhola with our young kids. Sangay was a fantastic guide and was very resourceful. His associate Tenzing was amazing too. We were little worried about weather when we started trek in rain from Chitre. Fortunately it cleared up next day and opened a lot of beautiful views and colorful rododendruns all along the way up from Tumling. View of himalayan range from Sandakhpu was awesome, we were very lucky that sky was clear till about about 7 AM. Best part of trek was from Sandakhpu to Phalut. Beautiful green meadows, rodos and views of wonderful valleys all along the way. I suggest dont return from sandkphut but continue onward till phalut. Ashmita staff made it very enjoyble for us.

Amazing time, amazing adventure! Wrote an extended review on TripAdviser about the fantastic time we had. Pemba was a great guide and Subash was awesome prior to leaving on the trek and upon our return to Darjeeling. Thank you!

Without much planning done on what exactly we want from this trip, we two girls landed at Bagdogra airport on 1st June. On reaching here we came to this being a rainy season most of the treks are cancelled. Above all, North Sikkim was closed down due to landslide. Then based on some googling we came to know about Ashmita trek and tours. We talked to Subhash on phone and he helped us out with possible options. We had couple of constraints like the trek could not be more than 4 days long, it should be feasible to do rainy season. Based on his suggestion we finalized Sandakphu trek. We reached Darjeeling a night before the trek was supposed to start. Subhash came to meet us and even went out of the way to help us arrange at good Hotel to stay in Darjeeling. Next day we started the trek and our guide was Binod Tamang. He was extremely helpful and made extra effort to make trek enjoyable and comfortable. Throughout the trek we stayed in Teahouses, which were to our surprise quite comfortable, considering the locations are so inaccessible.
It was an awesome experience and ashmita made it happen for us. Thank you.

Subash organized a fabulous 4 day 3 night trek in January with Dawai Lama (spelling?) who was a great guide. The trail was diverse and challenging and my friend and I were really happy with the trip. I definitely recommend Ashmita Trek and Tours.

From the moment I contacted Subash by email all the way from England, he was engaged, helpful and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. Our guide, GD, was wonderful - kind, thoughtful, well paced, knowledgeable, capable and trustworthy and we all felt happy and safe under his guidance. Our 4 day Sandakphu Trek covered wonderful, varied scenery, not too taxing on the legs and offered, of course, the unforgetable sights of Everest and the other Himalayan mountains. Accommodation and food were basic but comfortable, though if going in April, I would definitely suggest additional warm clothing for the evening and early mornings.

We had an amasing 6 days on the Darjeeling - Sadakphu Trek. My father (70 years old) and myself (39) were very impressed with Subash Tamang of owner (Ashmita Trek and Tours ) and particularly with our Guide Binod. He exceeded our expectations and really looked after us. The first day was tougher than we expected but as we got used to the altitude we improved. We didn´t actually see the full Everest view until the 4th day making it even more jaw dropping when it finally appeared. Jaw dropping is not an exaggeration. An unforgettable trek that we will never forget.
TIP: Take warm clothes. Proper thermals. Lots of layers. A water proof jacket. A separate warm jacket and something to stop your bag getting wet.
Both Subash, the owner of the agency, as well as Pemba, our guide, were extremely nice and friendly people.
All in all our trek was great even though it was a bit more extreme than expected. I guess we had very bad luck with the weather as when we woke up in Sandakphu we got to see 15cm of snow instead of a breathtaking view of the Himalaya. Subsequently the descent was very challenging and also quite dangerous as it got very slippery. I would have hoped they told us before how extreme the conditions can get and on this day I felt safety was taken a bit lightly.
However, Pemba managed the situation very well by changing the itinerary and he made sure we could try all our things in the next lodge.
The lodges were pretty good with really delicious food but don't expect luxury.
I would definitely recommend them for trekking and I can especially recommend Pemba as a guide as he did everything possible to assure that we had a great time.
Went with the guide Binod for 5 days in this trek. all was very good, start with the good will and the organization of the manager mr Subash, the responsibility abd the knowledge of Binod and ofcourse the wonderful view of Kanchanjunga it was amazing experience.

I recently went on a two week holiday to India and this trek was without doubt the highlight! The views were incredible and well worth all the walking. The guide was was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly and always ensured our needs were met.
Subhash was also able to accommodate our late arrival into New Jalpaiguri train station, changing our itinerary slightly to ensure we were still able to fit our trek into the time we had. I would strongly recommend Ashmita Treks and also make sure you bring some warm clothes for Sandakphu and Phalut!

We (five Germans) travelled with Ashmita Trek and Tours guide Ajay at the boarder of Nepal / India and it was so amazing. Hard walk with cold weather conditions but our guide cared very good about us and we had often a warm tea and best food. Aslo Ajay told us everything we wanted to know, about the landscape, religion, birds, other animals, people... and he speaks excellent english. We had very beautifull sunrises and a great view to the holy mountain.
Many thanks for this wonderfull trip.
We did a 5 day trek to Darjeeling Sandakpuh with Ashmita Trek and Tours. Everything was extremly well organised and we had the best time ever. Seeing Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga and the beautifull Singalila national park was an unforgetable experience. The best thing about this trek was our guide Binod who treated us like the guests of honour. He constantly cared about our well being and tried to fulfill every wish we might have. Also, he is extremly knowledgable about the Himalayas. I am a biologist and I was simply amazed about his detailed knoledge of local plants and animals. Subash, the owner of Ashmita is also a very nice guy. He showed us pictures of his native village in Nepal and offered us delicious tea. We payed 11'000 rupies per person for the whole trip, which I consider to be a very good deal. I can recommend this tour operator to anyone and will definitively choose them again when I come back to the Himalayas country.
We contacted three trekking companies before choosing Ashmita and - to be fair to all three of them - got good responses back from all of them. However, Subash was consistently the most responsive and understood our needs straight away, suggesting the ideal trek to suit our timescale and ability. We were rewarded with an unforgettable experience, trekking for 5 days along the Sandakphu ridge with great company in the form of our guide and spectacular views all the way from Bhutan to the Everest range. Subash and his staff manage to strike the right balance between warm friendliness and professionalism. Our week ended with a lovely dinner with Subash and his wife. Choosing Ashmita definitely enhanced our trekking experience rather than just facilitating it. Thank you for some wonderful memories.

We had only a limited amount of time, but wanted a Himalayan trek in the Darjeeling region with (hopefully) good views of Everest. Subash was friendly and accommodating. He created an itinerary that worked with our tight schedule, arranged all the details and provided a fantastic guide (Mr. Pembra). Everything was great! I would definitely use Subash to organize another trek in the region in the future.

Subash the Owner of Ashmita Trek and Tours , his guide Benood, porter Rudra and drivers where all amazing. We ate really well, stayed in nice clean places and were well looked after. I have to put in here that Subash went way out of his way to help me with a medical problem I had. His company is personalized, and to me that is what counts nowadays! If you thinking of using his company I would definitely say DO IT!
