The day hike near Darjeeling valley calls for a 6am wakeup time, and you will return to Darjeeling around 5pm. Leaving the hotel, we drive 2.5 hours through Manebhanjyang to Dhotrey (8,500 feet). Enchanted by the colorful rhododendrons and forest flowers, we are get off at Dhotrey full of excitement. Dhotrey is a scenic village perched among the terraced hillsides. Here, we have a filling breakfast and begin the journey through the dense forests to Tonglu (10,130 feet), which lies 6km from Dhotrey. Tonglu provides the best views of the trek. On a clear day, you can see two of the three highest peaks in the world (Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga). Bring your camera, because you might never get such dramatic mountain views like this again!

Descend through a pleasant trail, teeming with herbs and small plants, until Tumling (9,600 feet), about 2km away. Again, get stunning views of the majestic Kanchenjunga peak. From here, the trail guides us downhill through Meghma and Lamhaydhura villages. In Tumling, we have a hearty traditional local meal, packed with energy for the rest of the day.

I can be lazy when it comes to writing reviews, but on this occasion it is only right to call out Sangay who was my guide in Singalila National Park recently. His in-depth knowledge of the route and fascinating insights into the places along the way were second to none! I highly recommend his services for anyone considering this trek.

We had a great time on our one-day trek with our guide Tenzing. He was very knowledgeable about the region and took time to explain the flora and the places we visited. Even though it was during low season and quite foggy, it was quite enjoyable as the temperature was refreshing and the paths were mostly empty. It was such a pleasure to hike from a forest to the edges of the mountains then through pastures and quaint villages. The only comment I would have is that the food provided on the trek was very basic in comparison to the price we paid. I was expecting a bit more than instant noodles and flat bread, but then it might be because of scarcity of food at the summit. In any case, we had a lovely day and thoroughly enjoyed our trek with Tenzing.

We found Ashmita by chance looking for some help to get to Varsey in Sikkim, and we are so glad we did. Subash (the owner) was extremely helpful & stopped us wasting a whole day just driving. As he could see we were disappointed he proposed a 1 day trek that would satisfy what we were looking for & it didn't disappoint.

We had an amazing trek from Dhotrey to Chitre with our superb guide Tenzin, who was knowledgeable, courteous & informative all day. This trek takes you through the Singalia National Park & crosses the Nepal border where you have lunch at Tumling. It gave us a real taste for trekking in this region & we definitely want to return to do some of the longer hikes. The day started at 6am with our hotel pickup & we were dropped back to the hotel about 5.30pm. All food, snacks & refreshments were provided & we didn't go hungry. All in all a fab day & we'd definitely recommend using Ashmita
