About Trip

The Nagarkot Day Hike is one of few ways that you can see Mount Everest from within the Kathmandu Valley. This spectacular single day tour leads you to the scenic hilltop village of Nagarkot. At 2195 meters (7201 feet), you are confronted with eye-popping views of the absolute most majestic peaks on the planet. Not the mention, the journey to the top is just as amazing as the view when you get there!

From the precious terraced hillsides that cascade down the rolling hills, the trail leads to an outstanding mountain viewpoint where the Himalayas seem just an arm’s reach away. From the viewpoint, your panorama expands from Dhaulagiri(8167 meters/26,795 feet) in the west to Mount Everest (8848 meters/29,029) in the east, as well as the magnificent Kanchenjunga (8586 meters/28,169 feet). See three of the highest peaks in the world in one sweeping view.

In the morning, we pick you up from your hotel and escape the dust and noise of Kathmandu. Weaving through the hilly roads, we stop at the trailhead and start the hike. The stroll leads through serene landscapes of terraced agricultural fields, dense forests, and fields of wildflowers. Pass Tamang and Gurung villages. Just about an hour from Kathmandu, the lush vegetation and quaint villages make you feel as if you have stepped into another world.

Learn about the typical hilly region culture along the journey to the top. Time moves at a different pace here, and no one seems to be in a hurry. Take a deep breath of fresh air and admire their laidback lifestyle. Further up the hill we go, to ultimately reach the viewpoint. Try to bring some binoculars for an even more clear view of the rugged peaks. We take our time at the top, resting and enjoy the presence of the beautiful Himalaya, before beginning the descent.

During the descent, we stop at Changunarayan Temple, an UNESCO World Heritage site, and is said the be the oldest temple in the Kathmandu Valley at over 1,500 years old. After learning about the ancient temple, admiring its architecture and history, we take you back to your hotel to enjoy the rest of your evening.

The beauty of the Nagarkot Day Hike is that it is the most accessible hike from Kathmandu, and it is possible for nature lovers of all ages and experience levels. Within a few hours of hiking on the soft trail, be encompassed by pristine peaks. It’s perfect for the whole family, a couple of friends, and the solo traveler.

NOTE: If you would like to turn the Nagarkot Day Hike into an overnight tour package, that is more than possible! Nagarkot is one of the best spots to watch the sunrise/sunset in Nepal! Wake up in the early morning and watch the sun cast a fiery orange-red glow onto the majestic peaks.

Take our Nagarkot Day Hike during any time of the year. Be mindful, though, about the climate of Nepal. The views during the spring and autumn are much clearer than during the monsoon season. Winter is also a great time, and there are fewer tourists. Ashmita Trek and Tours arranges the tour with full management, including transportation, meals, etc. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

We spent 4 days touring Kathmandu City and Kathmandu Valley with Ashmita Trek and Tours. They were a wonderful group to see this city and area with.  After the hustle and bustle of the city it was wonderful to go out to Nagarkot day hike for the Sunrise view - we were lucky and had a lovely view of the Himalayas range of Annapurna though clouds kept Everest hidden! It was a beautiful view - especially watching the light change on the mountains. and later after our breakfast at Nagarkot we hiked 3-4 hours through the countryside and small towns to the UNESCO world heritage site Changu Narayan Temple. Like all the sites here - it was beautiful and a reward after a lovely hike ! We specifically want to commend our driver who kept our possessions safe while I toured and allowed me to feel safe in an area of thousands of hectic drivers!! absolutely no complaints whatsoever and I would recommend any clients interested in trekking around kathmandu valley.

We start at 7 am after breakfast from our hotel kathamandu. The transportation will bring you to the highest point of nagarkot and from there walk downhill all the time (except 20min up, easy trek), passing by small villages and some temples. The guide was very friendly, acknowledged and adapted his walking speed to our condition. He also does longer treks in the Annapurna range, so he was great to talk to. We highly recommend this day trip to those keen for day trek in Kathmandu valley.

Beautiful!! day hikes to Nagarkot The Ashmita teams took amazing care of us and was so friendly, knowledgeable Guide The tour included a transport delicious lunch with a lovely view of Kathmandu Valley after meandering down through the gorgeous rural hillsides. The Changu Narayan temple at the end was breathtaking, even with the post earthquake construction. And walking through the town. Highly recommended.
