Our trek starts with a drive (2 hrs) by jeep to a small village of Manaybhanjyang that lies just outside the Singalila National Park. Maneybhanjang having an altitude of 2134 meters also known as village of tribe people lies between India and Nepal border. There we have to show a pasport and visa for an international client.
We start the trek through a forest trail of patches of oak and rhododendron leading to tumling which takes about 5-6 hrs walk. From here there are particularly good views of Darjeeling town spread over the ridge immediately opposite and 1000 metres below us on one hand and wide views of the entire Kangchenjunga range on the other. We will stay overnight at Sikhar lodge that is run by a friendly local Gurung Family.
Early wake-up for a sunrise view from Tumling Top. Weather permitting you will get fabulous views of both Singalila and Chola Ranges of Mount Kanchenjunga. Return to Tumling for breakfast and after breakfast take the trail through the Singalila National Park - via Gairibas - Kalipokhari to Sandakphu. The trail leads us through bamboo glades and farmlands with quaint little villages inhabited by warm and friendly people. It is a continuous climb through the rhododendron forests. The Distance from tumling to kalapokhari is 13 kms and it takes 5 hrs walk to Kalapokhari. After lunch at Kalapokhari we walk along a comparatively level road to “Bikhebhanjyang” that means Valley of Poison in English. Trek from Bikhebhanjang to Sandakphu is a steep climb of 4 kms and it takes more than an hour to cover this trek. Trek time 2-3 hrs. Sandakphu 3636 meter is 58 kms from Darjeeling and commands one of the most spectacular views. We will stay at sunrise lodge that is run by a friendly Sherpa family. Overnight stay at the lodge.
Morning sunrise call to watch the pink, red and finally golden glow of sunlight as it inches its way east to west across the face of the Himalayas.
Sandakphu - Phalut. Resume trekking after breakfast from Sandakphu to Phalut (3600 meters). It is one of the loftiest as well as the most spectacular of the treks in the Singalila Range . The burned silver fir forest makes a beautiful sight. After a walk of 4 hrs from Sandakphu you will come across a stone house with its roof blown off on the top of a small ridge. The place is known as Sabarkum and is 14 kms from Sandakphu. We will halt overnight at Phalut trekker’s hut. (please note; on this night we will provide the room in trekker’s hut as we do not have any choice because it is a very remote place.
Phalut is the most beautiful place in the whole trek. When we step out of the hut at dawn the valley below us on one side is filled with clouds. The sun peeps through the clouds flowing into the valley like river down and around the hill. The trek today from Phalut to Gorkhey from where we temporarily say goodbye to the views of Kangchenjunga and the eastern Himalaya and another beautiful day of walking through rich forests of Rhododendrons and Magnolias with great birdlife. Finally we reach to Gorkhey, a nice village and the place for eco- tourism. Overnight stay at family homestay .
After breakfast trekking via Samandin to Ramam about 5 hours till the trail reaches the meeting of two streams called Gorkhey Khola. It's a picture postcard place. Resume trekking via Samandin. We will stay at Timburey, a very small village. We will stay overnight at Saumbu home stay that is run by a friendly local tribe (Tamang) family.
After your breakfast we start your trek to Rimbeek through beautiful thick black forest of the Singalila National Park. A fascinating day as it offers, another opportunity to experience, a walk through virgin parts of the eastern Himalayas followed by a section through a couple of orderly hillside villages allowing us to see the local lifestyle from close hand. You will take your lunch at Rimbeek. Later we meet the driver and have a journey of about 4 hours by a jeep to Darjeeling. Overnight stay at your Hotel in Darjeeling.

We did sandakhpu - phalut trek returned via Gorkhey - Timburey - srikhola with our young kids. Sangay was a fantastic guide and was very resourceful. His associate Tenzing was amazing too. We were little worried about weather when we started trek in rain from Chitre. Fortunately it cleared up next day and opened a lot of beautiful views and colorful rododendruns all along the way up from Tumling. View of himalayan range from Sandakhpu was awesome, we were very lucky that sky was clear till about about 7 AM. Best part of trek was from Sandakhpu to Phalut. Beautiful green meadows, rodos and views of wonderful valleys all along the way. I suggest dont return from sandkphut but continue onward till phalut. Ashmita staff made it very enjoyble for us.
